Dave and I had found a top 40 HK eats on cnngo.com and we had been trying them out. With Sue around and our love of food, we hit up a bunch of the places while giving her a tour of the city of Hong Kong.
By being in Sheung Wan, it meant that we had to stop at the Man Mo Temple. Unfortunately, it seemed as if they were restoring/cleaning part of the temple so the beautiful carved doors were hidden. I didn't go into the temple with Sue because I didn't think the incense was good for Taylor's lungs, so the only photo that Sue took was from outside. She peeked her head in and declared it good enough.
Next food stop: Egg Tarts! This egg tart place has a shortbread crust instead of the pastry crust that is typical in the US. There is a lot of the filling and usually warm. It's also located in Central/Soho area, which is another tourist attraction.
Sue was excited for her egg tart! After eating the egg tarts, we walked around the wet markets and went to Causeway Bay.
The chaos of Causeway Bay and a Marc Jacobs trolley? I brought Sue to Times Square, but there wasn't much to see so then we spent the next 20 minutes looking for a coffee shop or somewhere to sit down. At this point, I was pretty tired of carrying Taylor around.
We finally found a Starbucks to relax in and Taylor had some fun with my wallet (as usual). You can kind of tell from this photo that Sue is amused at Taylor and her skills.
Third stop: Mini Egg Cakes - This place was located in North Point, which is the farthest that I had ever traveled on the MTR on that particular line. We got out and initially had some problems finding the hole in the wall, but finally found all the photos of people eating them. Our verdict was that they were only okay. The problem was that they seemed to have been made awhile ago, so not as fresh as just made. Maybe they would have been better if they had just come off the griddle.
After giving Sue a condensed tour of HK island, we went back to the hotel to relax and play in the pool.
Final stop: Lei Garden. This restaurant has a couple of items on the top 40. But I've realized that their English menu doesn't contain the good dishes. So it was a guessing game on how to order takeout. It was frustrating to say the least. And the chicken feet served during dinner aren't the same ones advertised on the top 40 list.
The ridiculousness of dessert. Somehow we ended up getting 2 desserts each. Actually, I think the conversation went something like this:
Me: I can't decide which dessert to get. Should I get both?
Sue: I'm going to get two desserts because one of them looks small. You should get 2 as well.
Me: Okay, if you're getting two, then I want two as well.
I guess it's okay to eat this much dessert after carrying Taylor all over the city? Right???
